& Other Stories Seventh Avenue Fragrance

I get asked fairly often about ‘every day’ fragrances – perfumes that don’t cost an absolute fortune but are lovely to wear despite not breaking the bank. For many brands, their fragrances are their cash cow – the disparity between what a fragrance costs to make and what it’s sold for is absolutely huge no matter how fancy the price. So, I was pleased to come across these EDTs at & Other Stories because at £26 for a bottle or £12 for a perfume oil, they’re punching above their weight in terms of presentation and scent. I loved the Sicillian Sunrise that’s fresh and lemony-grapefruity with a warm jasmine backdrop. I tested it in the Covent Garden store and it was still power-packed when I got home several hours later. Seventh Avenue (above) is a different thing altogether – a smooth, sweet vanilla (tonka) over leathery-suede notes. It’s not the one that would be my choice but if it was yours there’s a whole body range to go with it, too, as there is with the Sicilian Sunrise (Body Wash, for example, is £7).

Annoyingly, the actual fragrance bottles aren’t in stock at the moment but the perfume oils are, along with selections of the body range. I know they have EDTs in stores if you live near one. I tend to pass clothing store fragrances by – it just doesn’t even occur to me to even try them (I have, in fairness, tried Zara fragrances before and didn’t like them at all) but the Other Stories offerings more than surpassed my expectations.
