Malin+Goetz Limited Edition Strawberry

[unpaid/sample] This will be unlike any strawberry inspired fragrance you may have experienced before. There is most certainly strawberry in the mix but you can only just reach it – the fruit is tantalizingly close all the time but you will never quite get the full jam.

Malin+Goetz Limited Edition Strawberry

The Malin+Goetz interpretation is more about the greener aspects of fruit than the sweet notes. A strawberry accord is wrapped in fresh bergamot and pink pepper (which perks anything right up) and then as it warms to the skin, you’ll find a kind of creaminess from orris, some subtle jasmine and a musky, woody dry down.

It’s a genderless fragrance, but I am going to say that it errs to the traditional masculine – in my book, it’s a boy-berry fragrance rather than a girl-berry because masculine and feminine is still how many of us olfactorily categorize perfumes. Which is not to say, of course, that gender denotes or determines fragrance choice – anyone can wear whatever they want – but as a casual categorizer it can be sometimes useful in helping to understand without smelling the notes. We need a Smell-O-Vision app.

Cute it is not, curious it most certainly is. I love the unavailability of a typical strawberry sweetness although at the same time I want a bit more… it’s teasingly close. It’s for you if you like unexpected scents or secretive scents that keep their full breadth for the wearer, and it’s not for you if you prefer a blast of sweet fruitiness. It’s £75 HERE.

What an incredible review! I’m always stunned by how you managed to describe fragrance, but this one has got me hunting down a bottle so I can have my own sniff. Sounds so intriguing.

Thank you so much!! I’m always nervous about fragrance reviews because noses smell different things – I think Liberty has it if you are London based.

  2. I am going to have to try this out!

Awwwwh, MUST try… I can only remember one distinctive strawberry scent – it was limited edition (of course! all the best stuff must be temporary, don’t keep customers happy for a long time, grrrrr….) Versace “Time for…”. nearly 20 yrs ago. They had three variants then and the pink-red one Time for pleasure had strawberry+champagne (or did they aim for margarita effect?) character, so joyful…

I can’t remember smelling any of those although I think I must have at some point. Fresh has (or had) a lovely strawberry scent – not sophisticated, but just a bit charming and joyful.

🙂 I’ll have a look at Fresh, thanks! Not all scents should be sophisticated to be pleasant, huh? 😉
