[unpaid/sample] I have several favourite M+G products but I’ve always overlooked Dark Rum – it just never sounded much like a ‘me’ fragrance in its candle iteration but now I have it in EDP form, I think I’m a fan. What Malin + Goetz do really well – probably better than anyone else – is fragrances that are unisex. Mostly, you can find the masculine, feminine and any other permutation in all of their products, including fragrance – like it’s made for someone but also for everyone.
Unexpectedly, it doesn’t smell purely of rum – more rum ‘n’ plum and that’s quite an intoxicating mix. The plum gives a seam of sweetness while the leather (tattered, apparently…) gives a depth and earthiness. It’s a warm fragrance, only slightly spicy to my nose, with a smooth amber base. When skin gets into the mix, it’s really quite a sexy fragrance – it warms with your skin rather than on it, thanks, I think to the milky accents. Hmm, I think I like it. It’s £82 HERE but there is a perfume oil version for £29 HERE.
