[productsamplecourtesyofChanel] I don’t know a better way to start the week than with a new Chanel fragrance. If you remember Les Eaux from last year, Paris-Riviera is the latest edition to join the fragrance waters.

The collection is inspired by destinations that were important to Gabrielle Chanel – the Riviera was a creative hub in the 1920’s although a far cry from the luxury destination it is now. She spent a lot of time on the Cote d’Azur – often on the Duke of Westminster’s yacht and if not there, either in her villa, La Pausa, or the Hotel de Paris in Monaco. Olivier Polge is the creator of this olfactory journey and I think now my favourite of Les Eaux. It’s a floral-citrus dominated by jasmine and neroli but in no way heavy. It’s the kind of fragrance that you’ll be thankful for the need to refresh because the joy is in the heady spritz. In terms of last, despite being a fragrant water so lacking the intensity of a full EDT or EDP, I found it stayed on my skin a full morning but if you keep it beside you, it’s a challenge not to keep spritzing well before it’s needed. At £99 for 100ml, it’s certainly a luxury, but every inch so. It launches on 31st May.

On the subject of Les Eaux, there’s a new set of three 50ml travel size versions of the original scents, complete with a jersey pouch to pop your pick in.

Of the originals, Biarritz is my favourite, thanks to mandarin and grapefruit over lily of the valley. I actually love the place too – I’ve been twice and would go again at the drop of a hat.

As a reminder Paris-Deauville is orange and basil, while Paris-Venise is an oriental neroli amber. The set is impressive – it just looks so lovely and includes three postcards that you could send from your destination (not likely – I’m keeping mine!) or use as a visual representation of your fragrance. I don’t know, there’s something to be treasured about this set; I know I am very biased towards this brand (both in and out of work) because it resonates so completely with me but the travel set is special. It launches on the same date as Paris-Riviera for £195.

Oh you have such a gorgeous job! I’m so in love with these (from
a distance) I was into Deauville as a wish, but Biarritz also sounds so heavenly. And the bottles! Swoon. £100 is completely out of my budget range for scent, but the minute I get any windfall, one of these is top of the list. (Like you Jane, I’m weak for Chanel).
Fab review as always; you’re so brilliant.
Hi Jane are any of these unisex friendly? Me and my partner love Chanel and would love to invest in something we both could use (in love with coromandel)
As soon as I started reading your comment I was ready to say Coromandel! Actually, all the Les Eaux are designed to be unisex but I’d suggest Deauville is the most woody citrussy. They all have a slight ‘feminine’ bias to be honest but beautiful nonetheless.
