[productsample/afflink] I know that try-me fragrance boxes are really popular as it’s such a good way to slowly savour a variety of scents before (or even, if) making a full size decision. This one from Harvey Nichols, celebrating their own fragrance department, is selected by The Fragrance Society, making it more special than most.
Inside the box, which has ten horizontal ‘advent’ like windows, you’ll find an individual fragrance, some try-me, some phial and some rather generous (perhaps small full size, not quite sure) bottles.
The box has a detailed floral design – it’s really pretty and makes it very gifty; a perfect discovery set for a fragrance lovers birthday. Before I run through all the fragrances, I will say the one I love most from this box is the Experimental Perfume Club’s Rose Rhubarb which is a rush of both at once and completely entrancing although it’s possible each box has a different one – I don’t think you’d complain when there are perfumes such as Neon Jasmine, Red Hot Wood or Fig Neroli as options!
Inside the box, there’s also a full brochure with Smelling Notes which ask you to consider certain aspects of each fragrance. This is actually fun and it made me think what a great friend’s night out treat this would be as you each answer different queries. For example, ‘does the fragrance remind you a particular time of day?’ or ‘if this were a painting, would it be watercolour or oils?’ The questions get you thinking in depth about the things you’re smelling.
The contents in my box are: Serge Lutens Un Bois de Vanille, Memo Paris Eau de Memo, a floriental with bergamot, jasmine and moss, Ella K Memoires de Daisen In, a floral featuring kumkwat, rose and musk, Maison Francis Kurkdijan Gentle Fluidity, a woody rendition with nutmeg, juniper and vanilla, and Goutal Eau d’ Hadrien, fresh with notes of citron, cypress and woods.
Then we have The Experimental Perfume Club’s Rose Rhubarb, Robert Graham vials of Fortitude, which is oriental with tobacco, toasted almonds and patchouli, Valour, an aromatic sage, coffee and spice blend, and Courage with guaiac wood and vodka! Finally, it’s Tiziana Terenzi with Bella Oudh, woody, floral and citrus.
In a way, it’s like a perfume tour because it covers so many different genres and gives you the opportunity to explore notes in depth. It’s £45 HERE and I feel it’s well spent if you’re looking to expand your fragrance knowledge and experience.
