[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] As you might imagine, it’s rather a ‘rosy’ time at the moment – they’re in full bloom, they’re associated so much with the British garden and of course, it’s Jubilee week where many of us are celebrating all things British. I’ve resisted most of the tenuous Jubilee connections but there are one or two coming up this week just as a head’s up. I’m starting the week with Coach Wild Rose EDP. Coach, much as I love their bags, isn’t somewhere I’d naturally turn to for fragrance and this is definitely one for those who like their rose almost gourmand.
The brand itself dates back to 1941 – I thought it was earlier, perhaps being one of those heritage brands that find a way to rise again, like Burberry or Hermes. It wasn’t really until 1979 that Coach changed from being a small, niche handbag artisan brand to the multi-product one it is today. Wild Rose is very fruity – red currant is juicy and ripe with a little trail of lemon to balance. Bergamot sits alongside the fruitiness – it’s often used as a refresher but in this iteration it’s more about the sweetness.
Amber is listed as the top note so you might wonder where the rose actually comes in at all. The funny thing about it is that it drifts in and out – sometimes I catch a charming drift of fresh rose and other times it’s so heady and fruity I can hardly find it at all. This fragrance is for you if you like a fulsome, notice-me floral; it’s not for you if you don’t like any of those things. I’m in the balance about whether I like it or not – I feel like I might want it for evenings out but probably not for tootling about at home. Yes, I think that’s it – Coach Wild Rose is the party rose and if your summer is a full calendar, it’s probably a great companion. Rose is having a very long moment. It’s in so many products. I’m extremely allergic to roses. Yes, this is a rose fragrance an it’s clearly named and labeled as containing roses. I”m just venting because you have to look very carefully on many labels. Everyone has been raving about NARS new foundation, but it has roses in it and so does the newest Charlotte Tilbury foundation. What’s worse is that it’s in some products for sensitive skin.
That’s an unfortunate allergy because, as you say, it’s in so many things.
