H&M Applique Skirt

So, I already had a Friday Treat post all ready and waiting to go live until I spotted the dress version of this gorgeous black chiffon applique’d skirt in H&M. I didn’t see the skirt until my friend Genevieve posted herself on Instagram wearing it (and she’s kindly letting me post it so you can see – you can find her at @this_is_fifty on Instagram).

Isn’t it fab? I’d have nabbed the skirt straight away if I’d seen it (we often like the same things!). Dior is very fond of applique and the first thing I thought when I saw the dress in the store in Regent Street that it was very Dior in look. I think we can say that’s where the similarity ends! The skirt is £59.99 HERE which is pricey for H&M but I love the way that Gen has styled it and it could just as easily be elevated to a full evening look. Personally, I’d put it with a white v neck t-shirt and a biker jacket (if I had one!). The waist band is elasticated presumably so we can fit in Christmas ;-).

So, then I had a bit more of a scoot around the H&M website and found this alternative skirt. I love the fact that there are some longer skirts about that can be put with chunky sweaters and boots just as easily as with high heels and sequins. This version is £34.99 HERE. I think this is so elegant and would also find its soul mates with biker jackets and t-shirts although I love the idea of an over-sized black cashmere roll neck (don’t have one of those either!) and furry (fake) boots as an option.
