[unpaid/sample] It’s taken me far too long to get around to try The Solution – I love a well-priced body care range and this one is just so nicely thought through. My one reservation around it is that it is a built-for-purpose brand with no single person behind it and no brand story which I find odd because the first rule now is to have a good story – something customers can get behind and feel connected to. However, body care is the one beauty category where there is plenty of space for more so perhaps it doesn’t matter.
One product caught my eye more than the others – the Clear Skin Body Gel. Using spot slaying salicylic acid as a key active ingredient, it’s managed to make a body blemishes solution look as pared back and sleek as any other contemporary body product. I love the fact it doesn’t refer to bacne – or frontne – or in fact, anywhere ‘ne’ and yet, this is exactly what it can help with, given the actives. If you have mild breakouts, front, back or sides, it’s one to consider and one to sneak into any teen’s stocking. It’s £9.99 which seems very reasonable for 200ml.
The idea of bestowing body care with similar properties to face care isn’t new exactly, but this format follows the trend for single ingredient purchases (think Inkey List and Deciem) by highlighting the key performer. I’ve never thought to use retinol on my body – it’s price prohibitive in most cases – but I’m not against the idea at all. And the same for hyaluronic although something in my beauty brain says it might be wasted on body skin and there’s no suggestion of the differing molecule sizes that are needed to do more than surface hydration. That said, texturally, it’s the most appealing in a cream gel that is cool to the skin and silkening. If you’re the sort of person who needs a pile of body butter, it isn’t for you – it’s much more of a light hydration. The Retinol formula feels a little bit richer, while the Salicylic Acid is a cooling gel with a bit of a medical and clean whiff to it. Again, they’re £9.99 each.
