[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] We are very much in luxury territory here – at £45 for 40ml – but this definitely IS a treat.
It’s far more balm than cream with an instant silkening effect that immediately makes you feel you have something special on your hands. As part of the Abeille Royale family, it’s more skin care than traditional hand creams, using a variety of honeys to provide amino acids to help maintain hydration and resilience. More of a long term hand care strategy in many ways, unless you just want to revel in the moment.
I didn’t know that Guerlain is involved with philanthropic work with the Association for the Ouessant Island Brittany Black Bee Conservatory, an area designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. As I understand it, the black bees are native to the island and are unpolluted by mainland influences because it’s too far away for them to fly to. So, Guerlain’s contribution is to fund beekeepers, spread the world and provide legal support for the preservation of the bees. The balm has a lovely scent – it’s not just honeyed but warm and nectar-like, created by parfumer Thierry Wasser. So, you see, there is a bit more to this than meets the eyes.
I used to have a little gold Guerlain bee that came with something the press office sent out and I’ve lost it – it would have been so perfect to illustrate this with. Anyway, I have found the hand balm for a bit less at Escentual – £40.50 HERE, non-affiliate HERE if you feel like a treat is needed.
