I think that fragrance layering has died a death – you really don’t hear of it so much any more and yet at one time, it was positively encouraged to slather as many layers as possible. Soap, bath foam, body cream and then a whack of fragrance over the top! If Chanel Chance in one of its four guises is one of your favourites, I feel that these spritzy-oils are generous enough in perfume that you really wouldn’t need anything else over the top unless you want it, of course.
As a quick reminder of the individual permutations, Chance is pink peppercorn, jasmine, hyacinth and musk. Chance Eau Tendre is floral, fruity, white musk and quince, while Chance Eau Fraiche is floral, fresh and lemony with woody notes. Finally, Chanel Eau Vive is energetic with orange, iris and cedarwood. This oil formula is lovely – I like the way it spritzes properly (no squirting from Chanel!) and that the dry oil isn’t overly heavy being more of a oil veil than a truly moisturising body oil. I found the fragrance stayed well, although was all but lost by the end of the day. I liked having it on my skin and loved getting little wafts of Chance every now and then while I pottered about in the garden. At £38, which seems pretty reasonable for this brand, it’s a gorgeous treat to self or gift. I should say it’s in a vapouriser, similar to the Chanel Moisture Mists and deodorants. These launch on the 22nd June but if you’re now craving a spring-like spritz of Chance, the Moisture Mists (£32) are HERE.
