Well, this is a rare miss from Clinique. This year’s advent is so cheap looking and flimsy, and yet the contents are so good! Given that the benchmark for advent calendars has well and truly gone through the roof, something that is one up from a selection box, packaging wise, isn’t enough. When I pulled the plastic tray out of the bottom of the box (as it became clearer that every time I opened a window I was ripping the surrounds and was just going to be left with a hot mess) there was an absolute whiff of fish which I assume is the plastic.
If you love your Clinique minis, perhaps the cover doesn’t matter particularly, but it’s £76 which is a premium price for a product that looks, feels and acts budget. The products however, are great. I use Clinique minis more than any other, I think (maybe Malin + Goetz a bit more) for absolute reliability (although my favourite mini, Take The Day Off Balm, isn’t in the calendar) and there is such a good mix of skin care and make up that you can fill your flight bag and need nothing else at all.

I don’t really hear from Clinique so much any more so I don’t really feel there is anyone I can ask what happened – perhaps they think it’s fine! But it isn’t fine amongst very, very stiff competition. The worst thing is that if you’re looking at it on-line, it looks quite appealing – it’s only when you see it physically that the flimsiness is apparent. True Clinique fans probably won’t judge the book by the cover because the interior (listed below) is so good and varied and Clinique advents always sell out regardless, but it’s disappointing, especially when the rest of their gifting range is much higher quality. “I don’t really hear from Clinique” that sums up Clinique generally for me. If you are not into Chubby stuff they just kind of slipped away leaving a trail of fond memories of discontinued products.
