More matte line extentions, this time from YSL who have added five new shades to YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats. These are easily some of the most comfortable matte lipsticks around – initially, they don’t feel like matte at all because the texture is ultra-creamy for a matte. They’re also very forgiving and don’t exacerbate every single line on your lips – thankfully, because mine are rather creasy.
That creamy feeling stays a long time, although you’ll notice that it does begin to feel dryer after a while. They’re not the most ‘matte’ in the category – YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats have more of a velvet finish than a very flat matte so I think a good option for matte beginners or for those who don’t find the super dry mattes flattering.
The new shades from bottom to top are: Lust For Pink, Wood On Fire, Red Clash, Nude Trouble and Coral Remix. The shades don’t look that dramatic on my arm, but if you think of the initial redness of your lip that they’re going over, they are strong shades. I found the last to be ‘okay’ – you’ll certainly need to top up during the day, but I think that’s the pay back for such a soft formula.
