Yardley April Violets Re-issue

Now here’s a brand I never thought I’d be blogging about, but when I heard from the PR that bottles of Yardley April Violet Eau de Toilette had reached £100 on Ebay, I had a quick rethink! Yardley – and Woods of Windsor (owned by the same company) are completely revamping their entire ranges to fall in line with more modern tastes. I adore the scent of violets – as sugary as you like. There’s no particular association for me with it; its just that my nose seems to love that highly powdery, sweet smell. Ironically, I absolutely hate the taste of parma violets although I’ve been known to keep one in my pocket just to have a quick sniff! Anyway, because there was such demand (and such crazy prices) for April Violet on the aforementioned Ebay, Yardley took it as a sign to re-issue this old favourite – so now you won’t be bidding off the scale because the EDT is £12.95 from September.

Yardley? I didn’t even think they were still around (I live in California). I remember them from the sixties when the extraordinarily beautiful Jean Shrimpton was their spokesmodel for the ” London Look”. They made an oatmeal soap that kept my teenage skin in check and some lovely cosmetics which would seem extremely tame by today’s standards 🙂

  2. April Violets is one of my fave scents. My mother used to give it to me for my birthday. I’ve been searching for it for years so your post is very welcome news. Thanks.

what a great story! good for Yardley, it’s nice to see them doing well, their rosewater was my first ever scent of my own when was about 5 I think (aside from stealing Mum’s L’Air De Temps!). I’m also happy to see more violet love in the world.

  4. I love violets (Guerlain Meteorites have the scent as well as Insolence perfume), so will check this out. Do you know where this will be available?

  5. I must admit, mine was one of the ones that sold for over £100 to somebody in America and I only sold it because it made more sense to do so at those prices, so I am REALLY pleased that it’s been re-issued as I can now replace it. x

I am so excited about this re-release. My mum and I have been trying to find April Violets everywhere! My grandmother used to wear it and mum wants it to remind her of her mum!

Praise God! Thank you Yardley. I have spent tearful hours trying to find April Violets. Please tell me you are going to make concentrated perfume, talc, soap and body lotion as well.Even oil would be wonderful too.Where will we be able to buy it in Australia? If not, then how do we purchase it from the U K ? When my daughter informed me it was to be reissued,I was overwhelmingly joyous. Thanks again!

I am waiting with anticipation for more updates on this wonderful fragrance. I want anything they make in April Violets. Want it all!!! The beautiful fragrance of it takes me down memory lane. Please, Yardley, don’t ever discontinue it again. I will ALWAYS buy it! Thank you once again.

Feeling sad! My daughter had Yardley April Violets sent from the U.K. to the U S A. I just received it today
and I could have cried! It is nowhere near the same fragrance or quality
of yesteryear. They say it is a re-issue. I say it is a disaster!
The soap is of the cheapest supermarket quality, the perfume watered down as is the talc.At one time if you had a cake of Yardley soap in the house, the whole house would smell beautiful…And that was before it was even taken out of the box! Shame, Yardley, shame!

OMG I am so happy I found this post! My Grandmother wore April Violets all through my childhood and when she passed in the late 70s I was given her last bottle…which has slowly evaporated even though I never opened it (just sniffed it when I missed her)

    I am so thrilled!!!
