I’m fascinated by the elegance and detailing of vintage beauty items; back in the day when there just wasn’t the huge volume of make up, skin care or hair products to collect that there is now, possessions were kept in pristine condition. Even though it is more likely that I’d need trunk-size, I still hanker after a proper, grown-up vanity case, with a place for everything and everything in its place.
My lovely friend Lynnette sources vintage clothes for her on-line vintage store, www.lovelysvintageemporium.com and happened upon this gorgeous 1950’s vanity set – it reminds me straight away of Mad Men. Even though it is a tad early in period, I like to think that Betty Draper would have looked after it so nicely it stayed in mint condition through to the 1960’s!
Inside are two hinged compartments, three glass jars, three gold pots and a compact for face powder. I would love to be decanting lotions and potions into this little beauty!

So pretty, almost inspires me to dig out my Mad Men boxset, never got around to watching it yet but I want to just to see the makeup and outfits! Makes me quite lazy and ashamed when I see how well groomed women looked back then x
