When you work in the world of beauty and are bombarded with new and clever brands almost daily, it’s really easy to forget the stalwarts and the brands that have truly stood the test of time. I was re-introduced to Lux this morning and reminded that in its heyday, Hollywood luminaries such as Sophia Loren, Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn were all happy to put their names to the then luxury soap. Using one of the best advertising lines (which nowadays would be utterly forbidden by boring old watchdogs, agents and adverstising standards) ever, Lux claimed, “9 out of 10 film stars use Lux Pure White Soap”, a shocking fib if ever I heard one! However, for retro glamour Lux can’t be beaten, and the sheer nostalgia that surrounds these bars of soap are just magical. I can’t particularly recommend it for the complexion, but for some reason Lux sells like wildfire in South America and India where there is a much bigger product selection. I did especially like one particular product; Glowing Touch Indulging Bath Cream, at a credit crunch worthy 1.89, that leaves a shimmering glow on this skin. Much more low maintenance than shimmer powders and loose glitters. Sometimes, the old ones really are the best.
