I’m taking a little break off somewhere lovely and sunny (I hope) – plans are to lie by the pool. That’s the entire plan for four whole days!
I’m the master of packing light – waiting for a suitcase to appear on the carousel isn’t something I do very often anymore because I’ve got carry-on to an absolute T. I have a carry-on size hard-cased Tumi pull along (rather battered now but still going strong after five years) that holds everything I need (although you might find a book stuffed in a jacket pocket).
Beauty wise, I hoard and hoard tiny sizes because that’s the biggest challenge – you can’t fold a bottle of sun screen into something teeny-weeny. I decant my Institut Esthederm sun lotion into a 100ml bottle and if I run out, I just buy something cheap and cheerful to see me through although I don’t bake in the sun so 100ml does me three to four days quite nicely. Hotel amenity shampoos and conditioners are notoriously rubbish so I’m always on the look out for sachets of those to hoard. I also pick up a budget after-sun at destination and I’m madly generous with it but quite happy to leave any left-over behind. Thereafter, it’s pot-luck on what little samples I have and it’s always a good chance to try something new.
Make-up wise, I take a lot of powders and sticks because they don’t eat into your liquid allowance and take up little room; glossy sticks are handy – all the shine of a gloss but in a solid form.
If you’ve got any handy tips for packing light, please do let me know.
