Tom Ford Neroli Portofino

There’s something I’m clearly not getting about this fragrance. I saw a couple of reviews that talk about opening with natural citrus and bitter neroli followed by floral neroli and bitter orange blossom. The fragrance is constructed with notes of bergamot, lemon, lavender, myrtle and orange blossom. It’s all totally lost on me. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it – it smells to me intensely clean, almost soapy and slightly cologne-y. But that’s it. I’m not getting any of the other twists at all. That said, it is a fragrance I could wear all day long and not grow tired of, mainly because there is nothing much to object to about smelling clean. So, in this instance, I think it’s me, not Portofino. I tried the Body Oil which is £45. Let me know if you’ve tried it and if you picked up the more subtle notes. There is some very racy imagary that goes with the ad campaign – I can’t show it here, but if you google you’ll find it.

Er, no, this isn’t the racy one! This is the tame version.

I’m desperate to try a Tom Ford scent. Any of them! But this sounds nice, love the colour of the bottle. x

  2. Oooh I love the images! It’s fun and shouts young and sexiness! Haha. I’m a huge fan of his scents and am saving up to get some of this, if only to imagine that I look like the guy in the campaign if I use it! Haha! Thanks Jane x

I think this is delicious but having tried it and Aqua di Parma I prefered the “cleaner” scent of the Aqua, which is just so crisp and unplayed with. As for the images, I imagine that was a fun days work for all involved!

  4. I’m afraid I don’t really care for Tom Ford fragrances. For light and refreshing, I stick with Guerlain Aqua Allegoria. Pampelune is my fave.

You’ve got me sold on the smelling clean thing, I love soapy scents. Is it out now…..?

  6. Hi Karleigh.. yes it is x

  7. I got the body oil here in Dublin. I do really like it, even though I think the dispenser could be better. It’s a really fresh smell but I agree I don’t feel it’s a scent that opens with something and then evolves, it’s just fresh and summery. Although I got told her by the bf that it smells like his Dad aftershave from the 80’s!

I find this smells like my old grans cologne, 4711, which is not necessarily a bad thing as it reminds me of her, but I feel it disappears too quickly.
I am really disappointed in this and wish I had plumped for the black violet which was the other one I was offered.
