It’s just a detail, but I do like a candle with a lid. I haven’t yet met a Timothy Dunn candle that I don’t like, and the Timothy Dunn Myrrh Imperial Gold is no different. In beauty world, you get used to out of season products so the fact that my kitchen smells deliciously of Christmas is absolutely standard, but this candle is somehow more; it’s SO rich in scent that it’s like ten Christmasses!
There are all sorts of notes going on (myrrh, frankincense and cinnamon with a whack of spice, amber and leather) but together they combine to make an opulent and elegant aroma. It’s an olfactory cashmere wrap designed to make you feel that you’re in the lap of luxury even if you’re in your oldest pjs and Marge Simpson slippers watching X Factor hopefuls.
At £75, you would quite rightly expect something exceptional – everyone has their limit when it comes to candles and fragrance in general and despite the loveliness of the Timothy Dunn Myrrh Imperial Gold candle, price-wise it is pointed at the luxury market and makes no bones about it, with hand blown glass finished in 24 ct gold and a gold plated lid. Given my liking for candle lids, I have quite a few of them knocking about – I wish, especially for a gold plated one, I could think of a good upcycling use for them. They still look too much like lids to pop a few olives in and offer round to guests.
The candle is HERE.
