Gorgeous make up brand Stila, created by Jeannine Lobel, thrived when it was bought by the Estee Lauder stable in 1999 – it was sold in 2006 and consequently become harder and harder to find. Now, Stila has now pulled out of the UK market altogether – the official line is that they are ‘taking a season off’, but who knows if we’ll see it again. From general dealings with the PR and distributor, who also handle DuWop (also pulled), there have been obvious problems right from the start of Stila’s push to re-position in the UK. All beauty companies know the UK market is a really tough nut to crack and the credit crunch biting so hard makes the struggle even more difficult. Let’s hope Stila doesn’t disappear altogether. Apparantly, it is still available at web outlets but whether they are selling off old season’s stock or managing to get new supplies, I don’t yet know.
