[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I absolutely loved the Skin Rocks gel cleanser which preceded this new balm launch. In fact, I’d say it’s the best gel cleanser I’ve ever used. I’ve got more mixed feelings about the Skin Rocks Cleansing Balm because while it is a super cleansing balm, I am not sure if its £55 worth of super cleansing balm.
If you asked me what the best part of my job is, breaking in a new cleanser would rate very highly in the rankings. I can’t tell you the pleasure of running a little spoon around that perfect seal – it feels illicit and thrilling (I know, I should get out more). So, when you look at that balm ‘shaving’, please know it was the very greatest joy in the making :-).
The Skin Rocks Cleansing Balm is a luxurious cleansing experience and very skin compatible. As soon as you massage the blend around your skin, you know it’s supposed to be there because it feels completely at home. I like any products that pays attention to lipids (essential natural fats that protect and nurture the skin) and my beauty heart jumps for joy when I see squalene on any ingredient list. In some ways, this is quite a basic, does the job formula but it’s full of extras that don’t strictly need to be there to clean your skin but are included for the additional experience. You can buy scented (nicely and lightly spa-ish) or unscented.
Phytosterols, jojoba oil, macadamia and Vitamin E add to the pot of goodness and post cleanse, your skin will feel utterly soft and flexible. If dryness is your issue, this will very much help – there is nothing of that tight feeling when you remove it. Ideally, I’d love to see a smaller, more affordable size of The Cleansing Balm – lovely as it is, £55 seems a lot but if you want a treat-splurge you can find Skin Rocks Cleansing Balm HERE.
Speaking of removal, Caroline and I part company on the topic of flannels – she loves them, I hate them – they’re horrible, floppy things that are unwieldy and soggy (I equally hate the tragedy that is a muslin cloth; one of the saddest sights in anyone’s bathroom). I’ve used Washi Hot Cloths since I discovered them (HERE) which are like a very thin flannel – they retain heat and are just more user friendly in size and nature than any flannel. Cheap as chips too, especially if you buy the seconds which do exactly the same job.
