I love it when something’s a goer, and these wax strips from legendary Otylia certainly are. Realising way too late that I needed a bikini tidy before I head off to France tomorrow, it just happened that I opened a press release on Otylia’s new wax strips. The PR very kindly spoilt me and sent over emergency supplies by bike so literally a couple of hours later I had all I needed for a home wax. The Simply Wax Hair Removal Wax Strips are £7.99 for 20 – initially I didn’t think this was very many, but after using only two for an entire bikini tidy up, I can see they’ll last ages. The wax is suitable for sensitive skin, smells a little bit like bubblegum and is ultra grippy so everything comes out in one or two pulls. Pull open a strip into two halves and one is woven paper, the other is clear plastic sheet. Apparantly it is the woven paper strips that yank out everything medium length and the plastic sheet that grabs the really short hairs. It’s easily the quickest and easiest strip wax I’ve ever done. I was also sent some pre-wax cleansing gel and post-wax oil – both of which are lovely without being exceptional. Celebrities flock to Otylia and always have done – when Hollywood and Brazilian waxing really hit the UK, she was the go-to girl, and women such as Kelly Brook, Mrs B and Gwyneth were regulars. I’ve interviewed no-nonsense Otylia for quotes for features on several occasions but my outstanding memory of her is when she appeared on a TV programme on women who remove ALL their body hair, and she said, ‘I look at some of my clients and think, my god, you could park a bus down there’. She is a funny, talented and very, very knowledgable woman whom I like enormously for being forthright and having a decent sense of humour that she isn’t afraid to use.
