Phatstix Balm Review

[unpaid/sample] Well, this has been many, many months in the making, and full disclosure, the creator, Thom, is a good friend of mine and also the person responsible for keeping this site fully running. I know from my own production (soap) that getting exactly the right formula, the right packaging, the right tone of voice, the right price and so on is extremely complicated. It’s much easier to make a very average product, but to make a really good one – it’s difficult!

Phatstix is a whopper at 30g – much bigger than your usual balm and that’s because it can last you a full year which feels like a very sustainable option if you’re a regular balm user. Additionally, everything is recyclable (after your year is up!). As you can see, it’s unisex – don’t come at me but boys are particularly bad at remembering to balm up – and it’s not glossy: a mild sheen perhaps and better still, it’s unscented. The number of lip balms I’ve encountered that have been completely ruined by an overdose of vanilla, I can’t tell you. Bleugh.

I’m falling into the trap of calling Phatstix a lip balm – it’s not solely a lip balm. Officially, it’s for lips, faces and places but obviously be sensible and don’t stick it in your eye. It’s a multi-purpose, turbo charged dryness eliminator with an ingredient list that reads as best in class for a natural, simple and efficacious formula. Phatstix contains beeswax, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, almond oil (so not ok for nut allergies), grapeseed oil, raspberry seed oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and mango butter. There’s nothing in there that doesn’t need to be there.

Phatstix is exactly the sort of product you want heading into winter – I’ve had pre-samples of it for quite some time and I can list so many ways that I’ve used it. It’s been a godsend for the turn of the weather – the garden still needs attention and unfortunately the time I have to do it seems to be when it’s cold and raining. I use Phatstix on the backs of my hands for fiddly work that has to be done without gloves and then afterwards on my poor, battered nails. I’ve used it on my lips (including blending it with lipstick to make a balmy colour sheen) and on a dry spot I always seem to get just between my eyebrows, and speaking of brows – a quick slick over gives brows the most lovely veil that doesn’t make them look shiny, just nicely tended to. Phatstix is a natural barrier that prevents moisture loss so I’d suggest a full face for any cold and wet sport or walking you might be doing – and cyclists! This should be on your radar.

I forgot to mention, you get a cute little pin as well. I’m biased I know, but I’ve got the luxury of having seen this product through from conception to the gorgeous, chunksome tube that it’s front of me now. Obviously, I have a discount code – BBB20 which gives you 20% off the price of £22 HERE.

Package just arrived. For a start: Such fantastically thoughtful packaging – I love the charcoal and neon combination. Then…a little packet of Starmix included (yummy! Would also recommend Tangfastics ; ). The actual product is lovely! So portable, nourishing and non-‘oily’ but moisturising. – it’s so good! I ordered one for me to try, and one for my bro-in-law (he’s a cyclist, so this may help on winter days). Big congrats to Thom.

So pleased you’re happy with it Carrie – yes, I’m sure it’s a cyclist essential particularly in winter. My BIL cycles across Yorkshire in winter and never a more chapped face have you seen!
