Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003

According to the Sephora website, this set will launch ‘the morning of May 10th’… which is today. As an international site (that ships to the UK), it’s not quite clear what that means for time-zones, but what is pretty clear is that they’re expecting a complete sell out.

The Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 contains a Shiny Stick highlighter and balm duo, the 003 pigment and a 003 buffer brush.  So far, I’ve been too late to the party to get my hands on the Skin Fetish products – they sell out so fast on Pat’s site (HERE) but I do know that there is a gold or nude option.

Annoyingly for UK consumers, the $72 price tag falls just $3 below the flat £6.50 postage rate from Sephora to the UK, but if you have anything else to put in your basket (put Skin Fetish first!!) you can top it up. So, the link is HERE – It’s now live and product is available at time of writing (10.22pm).

I managed to get both the nude and the gold from PMcG’s website – they arrived three days later…. Slightly odd packaging though (same as the gold palette from last year) – in a sealed bag with hundreds of sequins; took me a while to realise they weren’t part of the make up (envisaged sticking them all over my face)…..

I have this, but I may return it. I think that I might be allergic to something in either the highlighter or the pigment.

    A few thoughts:

Open with care. The products are in a plastic bag that is filled with what seems like a million sequins. DO NOT open this over you floor, your carpet, or near your pets/babies. I put mine into a plastic trash bag before opening it and I’m so glad that I did. That being said, I STILL managed to find a few random sequins in another part of the house. This packaging concept must have been thought up by a 12-year-old.

The packaging of the products themselves is cheap, cheap, cheap. Cheap look, cheap feel, cheap execution. Plain black plastic. Think drugstore makeup. This is NOT what I expected for $72USD.

I bought the “nude.” I am of color, medium golden brown skin. Current foundation is Lancome Teint Idole 470 Suede, if that helps. I was skeptical, but this opalescent pink color does show up nicely on my skin when the highlighter and pigment are worn together. The highlighter alone is a bit too frosty for my tastes. All three worn together give an intense glow. I have dry skin and do not mind the “dewy” finish. If your skin has texture issues, you may want to think twice before buying this.

I do feel that I fell prey to the social media hype here, and I’m a bit embarrassed by that. The highlighter is pretty, but IMO, you are paying for Ms. McGrath’s name and not for a revolutionary, must-have product.

Thanks for sharing this, am really suprised to hear about the packaging. We all fall for the hype every now and again 🙂

The highlighter reminds me of Estee Lauder’s Minute Makeup in Oyster Shell, although it’s from the ice age!

  5. I’m super jelly towards everyone able to snag this! I love the look of everything. Pat is a legend!!

It’s not that great, frankly. Packaging of the products themselves is indeed cheap – very lightweight plastic. The brush is nice but the products are nothing fantastic or unusual – equivalents are available in lots of other lines, with the exception perhaps of the balm but I think you can get the same “wet look” by using eye gloss products, or Eight Hour Cream.

So while I’m happy enough that I got one (in Nude), I suppose, I’d say it’s not worth the money or the hype.
