Pantene Keratin Protect Mask Review

[unpaid/purchase/affiliate] Safe to say that my hair has been impossible over the past couple of weeks. I know I need a trim which tends to improve its behaviour no end but time has been the enemy of late. Because it’s so bleached, it tends to go dry and fluffy very quickly and so much more so in the heat. Keeping strands looking separate is quite an effort. My hair doesn’t like tons of product in it – it upsets my scalp and makes the actual hair impossible the next day so I tend to keep things simple. I’ve got so many hair products here but I wanted to switch it up and try something else – most of my hair conditioners work for the day that I wash my hair but the following days are less successful.

I picked up the Pantene Keratin Protect Mask in my local Superdrug on Friday for about £6 – it’s a special edition Keith Haring (really don’t care) and promises ‘repairing*’ with the asterisk meaning ‘at surface level’ so it’s not going to do any deep conditioning. In fact, there are way too many asterisks on the packaging which all boil down to saying it’s not doing a lot deeply but plenty on the surface. And that is fine for me at this point. The deeper nourishing I think maybe I can do at my leisure – what I need is my hair to look nicer than usual at certain times and the Pantene Keratin Protect Mask did that so I can’t say I wasted my fiver.

I always preface a hair mask with my good friend Living Proof Clarifying Shampoo – it strips away every last molecule of product build up which leaves your hair free to soak up any mask benefits. It’s really my favourite shampoo in the world and I have to persuade myself not to use it every single time (once a week is plenty). It’s £16 for a travel size HERE. The Pantene Keratin Protect Mask is a fairly lightweight mask – very luxurious and rich feeling to the touch. I left it on for about ten minutes before washing away and really, the results are more than £6’s worth. Even if the benefits – separated, sleek and non-fluffy hair – are surface only, it’s a good one to have in your cupboard for bad hair weeks. What’s better still is that I am on day 3 post wash and my hair is still not fluffy or crunchy. I’m impressed and based on this, I’m going to try the Pantene Keratin Repair Mask. Anyway, if you’re in Boots or Superdrug, Keratin Protect is easily available if your hair is bleached and processed like mine and it just needs to look that bit better day to day.

The Keith Haring Foundation raises money for those affected by HIV/AIDS, so I would imagine this was a collab to raise money for that. Can’t find anything online about fundraising linked to the products though…

Great – I wish I’d known that earlier – I just didn’t think to look it up.

Hey Jane, try Color Wow. That’s all I’m saying! It was a game changer for my wavy hair (I stopped straightening during Covid and never started again), my hair isn’t coloured but I have no reason to doubt the range aimed at colour treated hair wouldn’t be as amazing as the curly range.

right – thanks for the tip!
