There is an absolute rush of lovely perfumes launching at the moment, including this one by Oscar de la Renta. I’ve got a soft spot for Oscar de la Renta fragrances; along with First by Van Cleef & Arpels, it was my proper introduction to super grown-up fragrances. My mum wore Van Cleef for years and because I didn’t want to smell like my mum because I wanted to be more individual, I chose Oscar de la Renta as my ‘expensive, going-out’ perfume.

So this new fragrance has all the Oscar de la Renta hallmarks; sweet, sophisticated and floral with jasmine sambac, orange flower and rose. White woods with amber, sandalwood and cedarwood close the fragrance – which I should add opens on ginger orchid, bergamot, hyacinth and galbanum. I can’t pick out these notes.. who can?.. but all in all, how absolutely lovely it is merged together with the finess lost on a fragrance hopeless case like me.

Actually, the bottle is the cyncher: designed by Oscar de la Renta himself. That, combined with the stunning visual by noted fashion illustrator, David Downton, it’s all quite irrisistible.

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love launches at Harrods on 8th March and nationwide 28th March with prices starting at £39.
