NYX Smokey Shadow Palette

When I think back to not even so long ago, in the UK our choice of make up was far more limited than it is now. I think we’re so lucky to have what we have – budget is no barrier to beautiful make up looks. Brands like collection, Makeup Revolution and Rimmel London knock out some brilliant buys that emulate far more expensive items. NYX launched into the UK some time ago – then disappeared – then came back! It was bought by L’Oreal some time ago and is slowly but surely making its re-entry. There’s always a danger that when a brand gets snapped up by a big corporation, it loses its identity somewhat, but I can see that NYX at this early stage is hanging on to its personality. There are plus points too when beauty brands are bought – bigger budgets to produce more product, better technology and a much better distribution system so availability becomes easier.

NYX Smokey Palette

The NYX Smokey Shadow Palette is a good example of budget brands doing things better – at £8, I think it’s brilliant value, and I love that it teams beige and navy (last seen, I believe in a beautiful Bobbi Brown palette) as well as shimmery charcoal and black.

NYX formulas are variable – this one has a high percentage of talc which isn’t ideal, but I found it easy on the blend and it lasted well, too. You can find it HERE.
