I’ve had my first go using Nioxin this morning and while it’s difficult to review as a thinning hair treatment when my hair is not thinning (and I hope it never will be, but you never know) so this is my overall impression of the products.
Firstly, the Scalp Treatment. I think this is pretty much the wow product – it gives a wash that I would liken to a detox shampoo but without any of the accompanying stripped feeling. It lathers phenomenally (in fact, if I’d known how much it would lather I would have used substantially less) but rinses away very easily and quickly. It may be the fact that the instructions say to leave it on for a minute or so that I paid extra attention to washing and really worked it into my scalp that I ended up with such a good result at the end. It’s also quite powerfully fragranced with a menthol type smell so if you want a morning wake-up call in the shower, you’ll get one! My hair still smells a little bit minty now so if you don’t like that kind of scent you might want to pass.
Next comes the conditioner; again with a minty/menthol scent – you leave this for up to 3 minutes and it rinses away beautifully. It is one of my absolute bug-bears – conditioner that takes forever to rinse, and because thinning hair probably can’t take the rigours of vigorous rinsing, this formula is an absolute plus. On the minus side, three minutes, after you’ve done a couple of minutes of shampooing is a faff. Finally, there’s the Scalp Treatment – it’s very thin and watery but contains peppermint oil, antioxidants and botanicals – which rinses away in a nano-second (NB: and no wonder.. it’s a leave in treatment.. oops! What can I say? Next time I’ll leave it in!).
Overall, after blow drying, I can genuinely say that my hair is pretty bouncy and happy – it’s very hard to say whether it looks thicker or not.. I am not sure I would expect it to after one go, but whatever way you look at it clean, fresh and shiny hair is a happy ending. I’ve got a couple of BBB readers putting this product to the ultimate test over a period of time so when the results are in, they’ll be reported here.

I used to use Nioxin a lot when I worked at the salon, loved it! It’s a great product, and did actually make my hair thicker!
I don’t have thinning hair as such but mine is incredibly thin naturally (not helped by the amount of bleach I subject it to) I might give this system a try, anything for a bit more body!
I thought you left the scalp treatment in…have I been doing it wrong all the time?! For shame!
seriously Nicola.. it could be that you leave it in.. I must check!
yep you do leave it in!! so sorry.. it was 7am.. I was blurry.. what can I say! Will amend the post and thank you so much for flagging up!
No bother, just glad I haven’t wasted a whole bottle!
