It’s no surprise to anyone that I’m a huge NARS fan – I don’t always ‘get’ the inspirations but the products are always somewhere in my make-up bag (ok, it’s a drawer.. ). The stars of the NARS Fall 2015 collection are the new Velvet Shadow Sticks – a line up of eight creamy crayons that once on the lid are going absolutely nowhere! I had a good 7 hours from the test shade lastnight and it outlasted me – I went to bed.
So, as you can see, the colours are camouflage, muddy shades, perfect for dark, super strong lids. They’re a mix of mattes and shimmers. So, the shades I have above from left to right are: Glenan (navy, and my test shade yesterday), Aigle Noir (meaning black eagle, a black infused with gold so that it actually appears a deep khaki), Reykjavik (grey matte), Sukhothai (strange shade.. a muddy green but with purple peacock feather lights), Oaxaca (a golden light brown) and Hollywoodland (a shimmering champagne).
The two gloss shades for NARS Fall 2015 are Baby Doll, a shimmery pink and Chelsea Girls, in a pink beige. Both are very wearable with a milkiness to the finish. I love both of these, not least because they take any bother out of wondering what to do with lips if you’re wearing a strong eye. They just match everything.
They’re swatched here beside Tribulation blush which is the only thing I’m not getting at all.. it’s a very pale peach (or, in NARS speak, a shimmery rosy sand) – I’ve tried it and I think unless you have the palest of tones, it makes pretty much no impact at all.
Finally, a swatch of VIP Red – it’s a bricky-blood red – actually a very powerful colour; I love it in the NARS look picture but generally speaking it’s one of those dangerous reds that can make you look a little vampire-ish depending upon your tone.
My top recommends from the collection have to be the Velvet Shadow Sticks – so impressive on wear and lavish pigmentation and I know I’ll use them a lot. Oh, and I don’t have the two shadows you see in the picture which look gorgeous – they’re duochromatic, that much I can tell you. No exact launch date yet but I’ll update when I do.
