Mini Fan Brush

The new love of my make-up life is my mini-fan brush, sent to me by a make-up artist friend. They are so hard to find (MUFE does one) but I’d say an absolute essential.. and this is from someone who isn’t a brush geek at all.

Make-up artist, Cassie Lomas, showed me how to use one months ago to get mascara right at the roots of the lashes where it’s really hard to reach with a normal mascara brush, and particularly useful if your lashes are pale. You simply dab the fan with some mascara (preferably from your hand or a plate and not directly from the mascara brush) and then nudge it into the roots of the lashes. The difference is amazing and helps to create that really dark eye look.

But, I’ve also discovered that a mini fan brush creates an almost perfect line under the lower lashes if you use a high pigment shadow. You only need to nudge it under the lashes twice and you have the ultimate line. It’s great for people like me who find liquid liners a little too hard looking under the lower lash line (and also for people who get the wobbles!). I’ve been using the Bourjous Intense Shadow in black to get a soft, but well pigmented lower lash line and also using it on the top line to get really, really close in to the lash line.

So, because these brushes are as rare as hen’s teeth it seems, if you spot one, it’s a must-buy.

They are easier to find in artists’shops than in make-up stores I’m afraid! I love them, too!

  2. Great tip, thanks for posting. Would LOVE to try! Now I need to get the brush as I don’t have one…

  3. That’s a great tip re: lining under the lashes.

I’ve found that this works better with mascara when I use it on others rather than on myself.

QVC has one for sale from smashbox in its last clicks clearence section if anyone is interested. Comes with two other things however the few reviews it has ain’t all that great.

I have this one from Crown in my kit and it is only £2.35.

It’s brilliant for the things you’ve outlined and I also use to whisk powder away from the under eye area after I’ve set a client’s concealer.

I find it allows a delicate yet precise application of highlighter along the cheekbones and the cupid’s bow, too.

  6. I use a fan brush too for applying mascara. Sometimes the crappiest mascaras apply so nicely. I bought one at an art supply store for $3. But this one is definitely a nice one!
