Maybelline Matte Lipstick

All I can say about the new Maybelline Matte Lipstick collection is drop everything (especially your plans to buy a £25+++ lippie) and grab one. The colour saturation is phenomenal, the shade selection is great – you can be shy in baby pink or fierce in fiery red – and the price at £6.99 puts over priced ‘luxury’ lipsticks to shame.

The shade selection I have is: Siren In Scarlet, Divine Wine, Nude Embrace, Magnetic Magenta, Craving Coral and Rose Rush. They’ve got a slight vanilla scent to them and the texture is ultra creamy. You wouldn’t take these for mattes on texture at all – when I think about all the dry old mattes at the beginning of the trend and their evolution to satin feel now, they’re just a world apart.

Over in the US Maybelline have just brought out a Babylips Gloss – hurry up – and also some liquid lipsticks seen backstage at Jason Wu. Just me, or is this brand upping its game? You can find the Maybelline Matte Lipsticks HERE (buy one, get one half price).

  4. I picked up Magnetic Magenta when I was in the US last year and it’s almost all I wore last Autumn/Winter. They’re a fantastic range and glad to see they’ve finally made their way to the UK.

If they had brought out ‘touch of spice’ with the range (which they’ve had in the US for ages!!) then I definitely would have bought it!!

  8. Go Maybelline! These sound fab (even to someone who isn’t a lipstick fan)!

Swatched the 4 testers I found in store today and think they feel absolutely amazing. Now need to track down the 3 shades I would actually wear – Siren In Scarlet had a tester but no units for sale, Divine Wine and Rose Rush were entirely MIA 🙁
Sadly my local Boots is rubbish at keeping stock levels up, and even worse at ensuring there are testers available…

I have been wearing #SirenInScarlet for months, and I have purchased #DevineWine for the fall/winter. They are gorgeous on darker skin.

  11. Thats a great tip! I was looking for a good matte lipstick.i will try one off Maybelline.

Do they smell the same as other maybelline lipsticks? I love their colours, formulae and price but I can’t handle the chemical smell

  15. Always frustrated by the US-only shades we never get to see (Rich Ruby for instance – great Ruby Woo dupe without the dryness) but you can usually get them on Amazon or Ebay for less than £10. Agree with a previous commenter that Touch Of Spice is gorgeous! But Divine Wine on warm-toned lips has a lovely brownish/merlot tone to it, so very Pantone Color of the Year! I have very mauve lips and hope it won’t lean too berry…those are ten a penny in autumn and winter.

  16. I wish Maybelline would hurry up and release the Baby Lips glosses out in the UK! 😀

The matte lipsticks look really nice. ^_^

    1. The Babylips Glosses are super-sheer color; I want to say some beauty blogger thought they might be dupes for the Nars/Chroistopher Kane glosses, and I have to say that the one I bought (in the familiar Maybelline hot pink and lime green product/top colorway) does tick the box for the Nars gloss I wanted, but folks with deeper coloring aren’t going to get a whole lot of pigment.

These are fantastic! We have about 12-18 shades here in the US & I have 4 or 5. They sell here for around $6, which is far less than £6.99. The smell isn’t my favorite but is worth it for the creamy consistency. I’m not a fan of the whole Baby Lips range, so I haven’t bothered with the lipgloss.

On your recommendation, I’ve just bought one and it’s lovely. Good colour and stays on to long enough.
