Mavala Jelly Effects

Translucent polishes are a matter of preference, I think. Personally, I don’t like it when you can see the edge through polish – I like my nails completely covered. If you’re like me and don’t really buy into these see through colour washes, try painting them over white polish – they really pop! The Mavala Jelly Effects collection has six syrupy shades and they’re gorgeous summery splashes of colour.

Because I’ve painted them onto a white nail wheel, they look more popping than they actually would do on the natural colour of the nail so do bear that in mind. Shades from left to right are Sugar Berry, Candy Apple, Jelly Grape, Happy Cherry, Smily Orange and Jammy Plum. Mavala sizes (5ml) are perfect for trying a trend – at £4.75 each they don’t break the bank. You can find them at John Lewis HERE.

Jellies have been a thing in the US for a while – layered with stamped images you can get a lovely 3D effect. Usually called jelly sandwiches, I’m sure there must be some examples in Pinterest – I’ve definitely got at least one pinned.

  2. I’m with you: transparent colors are kind of bummers. But seeing as how I didn’t read the description for Paul and Joe’s Crushed Grapes before I ordered it online, I am going to have to make it work. The white is too much “pop” for me so I might try it over my Butter London Nail Foundation.

That Jammy Plum is really pretty in the bottle.

Oh Lord, no! I’m definitely not into sheer polish. Not a fan of polishes that take a lot of layers/faffing about with either.

These are really pretty but I much prefer dense colours that completely cover the nail.

  8. I too don’t like to see my nails. When I paint them I want them to fully dissapear under the colour

  9. I am so loving Mavala’s recent releases – I really enjoy pretty, traditional nail shades which seems to be something Mavala keep releasing, so I’m looking forward to trying these.

Hi Jane, do you have any recommendations for a white polish that would be good for this purpose?

I’ve used Orly Ridge Filler which has two advantages.. it’s white (but not a stark white) and fills the ridges!

I’m not a fan of sheer nail varnishes as I’ve never really seen the point but I do like the look of these. Only for over a white nail varnish though as otherwise you can barely see them x
