Masque Bar

There really isn’t all that much in-between cheap and cheerful mask sachets and extremely expensive mask sachets – sheet mask sachets, usually for eyes, are standard for many premium ranges and yet not so standard for budget brands. So Masque Bar is really filling a gap for the mid-priced mask. Developed in Korea, capital of the sheet mask, they’re launching into Boots in October.

Masque Bar masks come in four variants – there is a very generous amount of product in the cream and mud mask sachets (I am pretty sure you could sneak two goes for every one sachet if you reseal properly and keep in the fridge) and the sheet masks are literally wringing with product. I’m not really a sheet mask fan… cream masks, yes, I love them, but there’s something cold and clammy about a sheet mask that I can’t get used to. But, sheet masks are definitely the future, thanks to Asian influences on our beauty routines, so I need to get used to them! The Masque Bar variants are: Pore Refining, Anti-Blemish, Brightening and Anti-Wrinkle – each one has particular ingredients to target individual issues.

When I check the ingredient listings, the active ingredients (such as raspberry extract, liquorice root extract, lemon fruit extract, Vitamin E, for example) are mid-way through the list, meaning they aren’t an afterthought in very diluted quanitity. They don’t seem highly perfumed either. You need to allow between 20-30 minutes, depending upon the mask. We’re so used to the one-minute miracle that this seems like rather a long time, but if that’s what’s needed to do the job, I’m glad they’re being clear and not taking short-cuts.

You’re either a mask person or you aren’t – but I love the packaging and styling on these; they manage to look serious and fun at the same time. I haven’t tried them yet but will definitely be giving them a go. From on-line reviews from the US, they seem to hit the spot and this is definitely just the first tranch of products from Masque Bar coming to the UK. In the US, there are many different variants.

Masque Bar masks launch into Boots in October for £9.99 for three sachets. I do have to note that in the US (Target), it’s $9.99 for three.. we’re definitely paying the notorious Boots premium AND, very cheekily, comparing the UK/US versions, the US gets one more Anti-Blemish sachet than we do.. for the same price.
