Malin + Goetz Bergamot Supercandle Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] As we know, bigger isn’t always better but I’ve got to admit this supersizer from Malin + Goetz is very impressive – and huge. This brand loves Bergamot – its a universal note that’s always fresh and sunny with a little bit of bitterness that you might associate with lime.

This titan of candles weighs in at 780g – enough for 180 hours of burn time and bergamot scented rooms. The holder is inspired by a both a Bauhaus lamp and the traditional apothecary pestle and mortar so the bowl can be used long after the candle has gone.

There’s a drift of muguet (lily of the valley) with the bergamot which is just so beautiful – it’s summery, uplifting, mood enhancing and elegant and it’s why I’d suggest this as the ultimate wedding gift. We are at the stage where our friends children are getting married and none of them want a toaster – in fact, they rarely want anything at all, but these grown up people who we have known all their lives, we want to give them something. The Malin + Goetz Bergamot Super Candle is both use and ornament – they can burn it and then they can use the bowl forever after.

I mean, it’s romantic, impressive and memorable. I don’t really just mean now weddings, but any wedding anniversary – golden, ruby, paper, diamond – when the recipients have everything they need and want already. The supercandle gives on so many levels: aromatic, tactile and beautiful.

I’ll take you through the notes, although personally, I can’t detect them all – to my nose it’s more a melange of bergamot and lily of the valley themed florals. Top: bergamot, bell pepper, grapefruit. Middle: ginger, muguet, cardamom. Base: sandalwood, musk and amberwood. As you might imagine, this luxury doesn’t come cheap – it’s £159 HERE at Liberty which is actually less than I thought it was going to be! However, you can just as nicely buy a regular size (260g) HERE – the scent is the same and no doubt the sentiment will be too if we circle back to the beginning and remember that size is not everything.
