The MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Fall 2014 collection is truly marmite. You will either love or loathe these – putting silver frost onto a mauve colour is a brave move – I’ve never looked iller in my life than wearing this.

Packaging is all kinds of lovely – when you move the lipstick around, the red matte metal keeps a black tinge over it no matter what.

I’m struggling to find something nice about both of these because they are very much a defined look – vampy and colour draining BUT with the right accompaniments, incredibly striking. I’m just not sure what those accompaniments might be! I mean it looks amazing on Rihanna, but what doesn’t? I think you need to have very, very pale skin or dark skin to make this work.. those of us in-between are going to struggle! If you have any ideas or tips on how to carry off silver mauve, please do leave them in the comments section – I’m dying to know your ideas.

It’s come out very brown against the pale of my arm – but nobody has lips that colour, so when you apply to the lips, the silver/mauve shows much more. It needs a darker background for those elements to happen, although you can just pick out the mauve undertones.

Viva Glam is such a massive, massive money raiser for AIDS charities – I just hope there are enough of us prepared to take a walk on the wild side with these shades! It’s a late September launch for The MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Fall 2014.

When I saw pics of these orginally, I didn’t really like them, but they’re growing on me. I want to try them, but I am super pale so maybe it would work?

I really don’t think this is going to be popular, I’m yet to swatch them myself but I don’t think they’ll look that great on my olive skin! Deary me! Rihanna as always pulls it off though!

  3. I’m really disappointed with the shade of the lipstick, it’s just not wearable for so many people. I like the look of the gloss though so I think I’ll be purchasing that! xxx Thou Shalt Not Covet

Oh I heard bronze browns were making a comback for lips but this just looks too brown – shame xx

  5. The lipgloss looks nice but I am not a fan of the lipstick colour unfortunately as they both look fab!

  6. I’m willing to try it! I have grey-pink-brown lips so maybe, just maybe it will work!

I love it! I am very pale with dark eyes/hair and cool-toned mauve lips anyway, so not too much of a stretch for me. I love how space-age the colours feel.

While many people may struggle to wear them, I do like that MAC have gone for something a bit different and daring here rather than another shade of nude or red.

  8. I think you’d just have to use it as eyeshadow!!

I think I had an eye shadow in this very colour when I was a kid.
