MAC Tempting Fate Collection

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I love this limited edition collection from MAC full of Dutch Masters influence and a thrilling sense of the richness of autumn. All the same references – cut pomegranate was a big Dutch Master favourite for a fruity still life – appear (have a look at the work of Abraham Mignon (1640-1679) from the foreboding of the colour-scape to the plushness of the pigments. Pass me a pearl earring!

Inside, it goes almost a bit baroque – I love, love these colours that are burnished and sumptuous giving you many, many options for looks from striking mono lids to deeply smoky and smouldering eyes.

From the title of the collection, Tempting Fate, the inspiration is decadence and temptation and I think it has been achieved. The Feast Your Eyes palette (£35) has three matte shades and five shimmery colours which you can wear as a wash of shimmer or build up into something more eventful.

The decor goes beyond the boxes and is replicated onto the packaging. I think this is the first time I’ve seen the Strobe Face Glaze (in Punk-In Spice) but it’s a delicious gloss wash with a hint of brown – I never like to say I can’t wear a thing, but I don’t see a time when this might be useful for me but you never know! There are two other shades if you’re after the glossy glam – Rose Gold Glow and Barococoa (£22)

There are six lipsticks – this one is On A Petal-Still in a neutral pink although I think the one that everyone will make a bee-line for is Dusty Grape in a deep purple shade. They’re £19.50 each.

I like a dark blue kohl – it’s a smoother sort of sultry I think and contrary to belief looks gorgeous on any colour eyes. You can wear this as a smudgy liner on your top lid or on the inner rims (my choice). This shade is Cobalt Kohl in cobalt – although not my version of cobalt which is brighter whereas this more of a blackened blue. I know it’s blurry but you’ll see it in the swatch. My error – I’d taken the picture before the swatch and now it’s used and blunted so not so pretty for the pics. There are two others – Pine For Me in green and Better Than in beige and they’re £17.50 each.

Of course, Fix+ has its own special bottle and a seam of golden gleam running through it for lit and glowy skin finishing and keeping make up in its rightful place. It’s the usual price – £24.

In this swatch, it’s the kohl in Cobalt, lipstick in On A Petal-Still and Face Glaze in Punk-In Spice.

Scrumptiously tempting! Such a lovely palette which has the right balance of jewel colours. I was eyeing this up in my local House of Fraser, Croydon (pleeeeaaaaase keep going as the service is excellent in the beauty hall). I didn’t realise all the products are dressed up too in the arty finery. That Fix+ bottle is gorgeous. Pomegranates were symbolic of ummm fertility so I will take the route that this collection should make for fertile creativity and looks! Thanks Jane, I’ll be off to MAC later this week. Hope your trip to Majorca was wonderful xxx

It was, thank you Chrissie :-))

The palette could just as easily wear the Bobbi Brown badge. I have various BB palettes and they look identical to this except for the picture on the front. This is my argument with brands under Estee Lauder ownership – everything has a cookie cutter feel and look as if they’ve come off the same production line with just the brand names stamped at the end.

I agree somewhat – they’re very similar to the Christmas collection last year. But, I think I’m swayed by the packaging which has such a beautiful theme.

  3. Truly lovely looking products from Mac, I agree.

Thanks Jane for your beautiful pictures!
As I posted on Facebook, this is in my opinion one of the all-time most beautiful makeup collections, it’s like being inside a museum 🙂

Have seen Kiko’s latest Charming Escape collection yet? I feel the same about it, I think they’ve outdone themselves, and charming is a fitting name

No – I don’t really hear from Kiko any more but will have a look… yes I agree.. best in a long time.

Awwwwh, the package!… Lovely palette – but show me a person who does not yet own these shades, so I skip… but lovely…

      I know, I know…
