The L’Oreal Paris False Lash Flutter Midnight Blacks (try saying that after a few glasses of wine..) is a new collection that uses a black base for both liners and mascaras, making them the very deepest shades of purple and blue. They give a ‘nuance’ effect rather than a colour effect – unless someone is really staring into your eyes, only you will know.

Blue Black is almost more grey than blue, but it’s a deep shade so will look incredible on blue eyes; Purple Black is slightly more obviously tinted.

On my arm above, Purple Black, Blue Black and Black. In the US, the False Lash Effect Mascara is called Butterfly Effect, I think, but it’s the same thing, different name.

The two Midnight Black Superliners have heavy black undertones so again, it’s a question of nuance, but I do think these can enhance eye colour in a way that straight black can’t.

Again, the purple is stronger than the blue. If you’re going for a complete blue or purple eye look, these will definitely add to that but personally, I like them for something a little bit different just pretty much on their own. They’ll cost £6.49 and Mascaras £10.99. Both products will launch any day now – you might be lucky and find them in some areas already.

WANT the purple/black mascara! So pretty!

Now that this mascara is sadly no longer available, can you suggest any good alternatives please? I particularly like the wand but cant find anything like it. Many thanks.
I found that wand over-complicated but much prefer the spiky wands to the more fluffy ones because they reach all the lashes and from far further down. So, there are lots of brands using that shape brush – mid price, I’d suggest MAC Stack, Benefit Bad Gal or Elf Lash & Roll 🙂
