This month sees the launch of three colognes from L’Occitane. The thing about L’Occitane is that they rarely get it wrong, scent wise, because they manage to capture familiarity and freshness both at once. Colognes are a different thing to perfume; they’re meant to be liberally doused to refresh and cool which is just as well because these bottles are gigantic! They’re cool on the skin and genuinely refreshing on hot days (if we ever get any) and because they come in 300ml bottles you can spritz to your heart’s content.

Personally, I like to spritz bed linen although you need to really love the scent of the spritz.. being stuck with a smell you don’t like all night is horrible! I was once scent some pillow perfume things.. bits of fabric with the most disgustingly artificial scents that I jammed in my pillow and tried to sleep on. Even after removing the thing, the smell lingered for so long I had bad dreams!

The three scents of the colognes are Eau Ravissante, aimed at women, and with a distinctly floral theme, Eau Captivante, for men, with bergamot and lime zest and Eau Universelle, which is unisex and carries notes of grapefruit and bergamot. They’re £37 each for the big bottles and £21 for the 50ml spray. Shower gels are £13 each.
