Lidl Suddenly Madame Glamour

Suddenly
Suddenly

I’ve spotted in a couple of forums that this Lidl fragrance, Suddenly Madame Glamour, is a dupe for Chanel Coco Mademoiselle so obviously I had to try it for myself.

On first squirt it is genuinely vile. It almost smells off or like a very old fragrance with a burst of alcohol and something definitely nasty. BUT, in the time it took me to snap these pictures and come back to write about my findings, it’s totally changed on the dry-down. There are some similarities to Coco Mademoiselle – the real thing it is definitely not, but I’d challenge anyone to tell the difference between this at (on offer) £1.99 and a much more expensive perfume.

I got accidentally sprayed with a new celebrity fragrance the other day which was so obnoxious I was nearly sick (and I’m not even joking) and that retails for over £20. Lidl Suddenly Madame Glamour is infinitely preferable to that.

*NB: Several hours later and Madame Glamour is still going strong (but not too strong!) and just gets better and better the more it lives on the skin, turning into a sweet (ish) skin and floral scent. I’m growing more and more fond of this.

  1. I bought this for my friend who loves Coco Mademoiselle & she said it was lovely. Not absolutely amazing but a damn good dupe. I think for £1.99 we should all have a bottle of this in our collection.

  2. Oooh this one has been talked about for the last couple of years in the perfume blogs (yes, we are ubergeeky fragonerds). There have been several blind tests done to compare the two and it’s generally agreed to be darn good and very much comparable.

Lidl also do a gent’s scent called X-Bolt For Men that is very similar to a posh one from Boss… http://iscentyouaday.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/lidl-x-bolt-for-men-grab-yours-now-before-i-do/

And I think I remember something about one from either Lidl or Aldi that is very similar to a Ghost one. Oh, here: http://bonkersaboutperfume.blogspot.co.uk/2009/11/lidl-suddenly-dor-swiss-ghost-story.html

Sorry but I have to disagree! I love Coco Mademoiselle and currently wear it so was excited to read of a super-cheap dupe. I went into my local Lidl on Sasturday to try their version and it just smells cheap and nasty to me. I know that perfumes smell different on different people so it might just be me and if you like it then great, you have a fantastic bargain, but to my mind (or nose!) there is just no comparision. I was disappointed. A lady who had just tried the tester before me mentioned that it was already giving her a migraine, so beware if perfumes can trigger that for you.

I’m not saying it is a dupe.. I am saying there are a few similarities and that I ended up quite liking it.. fragrance is quite subjective.. I am certain everyone smells differently so it may be that to a lucky few it’s exactly the same! But not to me, and clearly not to you either :-))

That’s very true. As you say, price is no guarantee that something smells good on you. I wish this had worked for me as it is a fantastic bargain – definitely worth trying 🙂

This did best on the blind test they did on Superscrimpers. People were really surprised when they were told what it was! There’s a Next perfume that smells like Ralph Lauren’s Romance apparently as well
