These days I will quite often run products past people who tune into my Periscopes before I put them on the blog. It’s a perfect mechanic for getting someone’s view other than my own and for perspective. This is a good case in point. I thought intially that it was rather dreary and very un-spring like – someone did comment ‘Paris in a Thunderstorm’ – but as I live swatched it, actually, everyone was rather taken with it, especially the level of pigment in the matte shades. While Laura Mercier Paris After The Rain Palette is not a typical spring palette, I sort of understood the mood of the colour scheme more after we’d had the live discussion. (I’m HERE if you’d like to join me.)
So, this is the top row – the matte selection, and I like the richness of the colours. I like mattes for eyes more and more these days and I could wear any of these shades and be quite happy to create a matte smoky eye.
The shimmers are very impressive too, although I found the formula a bit too soft and carved into the black pearl shade too heavily and carved it up by mistake. However, I have to take into account that this palette had been on a journey to get to me and could well have been bumped or knocked in the first place. I would advise, though, that you go at these with a soft brush rather than any kind of sponge applicators.
I got a couple of the spring lipsticks too – still on the no-bright track but great if you love a Kardashy-Jennery type toffee lip with a dewy finish.
The first shade is Gauche and the top shade is Droite. They both have very tiny flecks of shimmer that I don’t find at all obvious on the lip. The Laura Mercier Paris After The Rain Palette is a Selfridges exclusive, for £45, and it’s HERE.
