Jonathan Ward Fig Ultimatum
Jonathan Ward Fig Ultimatum

So this is what Mr Ward’s been working on so diligently! He’s been quiet for ages so I knew there was something spectacular brewing.

Not only is Fig Ultimatum a new visual direction, in deep purple Italian etched glass, but it’s taken on the grand challenge of completely reworking fig fragrance. If I tell you that not only is this laden with fig leaf, but also cognac, honey, iris flower, peat, sandalwood and amber, you’ll be able to tell that it is something very different. I struggle to describe fragrances, but what I can say about this is that when I took my first smell, I just wanted to keep on breathing it in. There is definitely an earthy note at the base but it’s surrounded by typically sumptuous floral tones and green leaf. It’s not sweet as such, like most figgy scents, but the honeyed notes do come through.

I think you’d really have to know what fig leaf normally smells like to distinguish it as very different from others, so in many ways it doesn’t matter at all what Fig Ultimatum’s remit is in the world of fragrancing. All I know is that it’s delicious, I want to keep smelling it and I’m delighted to have it.

This launches on JonathanWardLondon.com HERE for £35 on 1st March.
