Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear with Jazz Jennings

Clean & Clear

To be honest, you could not surprise me more that this tie in of Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear with Jazz Jennings. If you don’t know Jazz Jennings, she’s a 14 year old transgenered teen Youtuber. Jazz was born a boy and lives happily now as a girl. As part of the Clean & Clear #SeeTheRealMe campaign, that tells the stories of real teens, it’s something of a breakthrough for all transgendered people.

Being a teen is hard enough, but throw in a gender issue, and it all gets a lot more complicated. Believe it or not, Jazz isn’t the first transgender person to be part of a beauty campaign – Lea T, Carmen Carrera and Ines Rau have all trodden a path for Jazz to place her footsteps. However, I think she is the first transgender teen.

Beauty is one world – I don’t think it matters where in the world you come from, what your gender, race or religion, there is always some common ground to be found, whether it’s traditional hair butters, sophisticated anti-ageing creams or just the love of a gorgeous fragrance. I think the Clean & Clear Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear with Jazz Jennings embodies that philosophy perfectly.

I will also point out that Jazz has the support of her family – that’s not as commonplace as you might hope. There are plenty of teens out there that are crippled by their fear of what being ‘different’ could mean for them. It’s baby steps, but when we see more young women like Jazz being embraced for being herself, just as she is, then maybe we can step back from being judgemental and accept that being human has many faces.
