Jo Malone London Dinner Candles

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve been waiting a few weeks to post about these – there was a delay on samples arriving (nobody’s fault) and then I had to put them through their paces, but have truly fallen for these fragrant candles.

Jo Malone London Dinner Candles

For a start, they’re huge! I don’t bring out the candlesticks very often – and even less the tape measure, but here I am measuring and they’re 30cms tall – but I have some plain glass ones that suit these candles very nicely indeed. Because of their height you need a bit of clearance with them so no tucking into an alcove or a small corner because they definitely need a bit of room. The candles are 85g each (a glass home candle is £50 for 200g) and are scented with grapefruit which is a note that this brand does very well and has done so right from the very beginning – I always think of citrus as Jo Malone’s signature super power.

The funny thing is that grapefruit essential oil is one that is said to be an appetite suppressant which might be good or bad depending upon how you look at it. My mum always used to serve a grapefruit and orange starter on Christmas Day and to our young palettes it was the torture before the pleasure because it was very sharp but now I see the sense in taking the edge off appetites where eyes are definitely bigger than stomachs. The feeling of extreme fullness isn’t pleasant. Anyway – regardless, there is a touch of sharpness to the candles which is refreshing and realistic and countered by the warmth of the flame. They’re very grand candles and I will definitely use them for accessorising a table setting – it’s been a long time since I’ve used tall candles with candlesticks and I’m pleased to be reminded how graceful they are.

I believe the box comes with the usual Jo Malone black trimming ribbon so these make a rather wonderful gift – even at £50 for a box of four I feel they’re worth the splash out if you want to create some luxurious impact and atmosphere. In fact, I thought they would be a bit more bearing in mind it’s this particular brand but I’m still very much aware they fall into the seductive unnecessary category. The Jo Malone London Dinner Candles are spoiling and indulgent and elegant – I’m very pleased to have them and hope the brand brings them away from limited edition and into the core collection because they’re year round treats. 1. I would LOVE these in Pomegranate Noir! Or Myrrh and Tonka, or Orange Blossom…
