Ilia Beauty Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve written about Ilia before but I was at a recent launch to celebrate the brand going into SpaceNK and it was a timely reminder of just how lovely this brand is, especially for midlife skin. Its just texturally intelligent – founder Saskia Plavsic in in her forties so she knows what she’s doing in creating light bringing formulas with dewy finishes and understated, flattering colours. She doesn’t shy away from colour but tends to veer to the neutral side. Again, this is a split post because I can’t use more than one blush on my cheeks at any one time so there’s another featuring the stick blush, Dear Ruby, coming up.

New to me is the C Beyond Triple Serum SPF30 – I’m pleased to see Allantoin above and beyond the other ingredients – it’s an exceptional moisturiser that prevents dryness and irritation. I have shade 1 in C Beyond and it’s perfectly adequate for my tone as it is now – it adds a little warmth and a lot of glow. Some might find it a bit too dewy – a whisk of the powder brush will tamp down any shine but as a general measure if your skin is oily, this probably isn’t for you.

Also new to me is the Colour Haze Multi-Use Pigment available in 5 shades. In theory, you can use this on eyes, lips and cheeks but to me, it’s really a cheek colour. The shades I have are Before Today which is a rosewood sort of shade, and Sing, a cool toned pink. I tried it on my eyes which looked really pretty as a lid glaze but longevity was a problem and it just didn’t feel quite right on my lips, although others may not be as fussy!

An instant hit for me is Balmy Gloss in Only You. It’s an oil/gloss hybrid so feels gorgeously silky on the lips. There are six shades in this range and where you often find little pigment in lip oils these are quite well pigmented and the last is good although oils are notorious leavers.

In the swatch, bottom to top: Sing Colour Haze,  Before Today Colour Haze, both £32 HERE, Balmy Gloss in Only You, £26 HERE, C Beyond, £63 HERE. I’d advise taking a look at the mini set that’s got a £68 value and contains a Mini Limitless Lash Mascara (3g), Mini Multi-Stick in Whisper (2.5g), Mini Liquid Powder Chromatic Eye Tint in Mythic (1.5ml) and the Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment (4ml) to get a good overview of Ilia. It’s £41 HERE.

I’m wearing C Beyond in shade 1, Colour Haze (on cheeks) in shade Before Today and Balmy Gloss in Only You.
