Hourglass is one of those brands that I often see come up on Twitter and other social platforms as an overhype. Certainly, the Ambient Lighting palettes caused much division in opinion although personally, I liked them. So, now we have the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette – the sample above is Atmosphere – and it consists of matte shades, beautifully presented with a sand dune type effect.

The texture is a creamy powder – actually rather lovely to work with but it does kick up some dust. I’ve used a sponge applicator here to get the ‘stripes’ right, but if you’re using a brush you won’t get quite this intensity and will need to work on building the lighter shades. Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette is a whopping £56 – there’s no way in the world we can talk about this as ‘good value’ but it’s meant for the luxury market and is priced as such. Personally, at that price, it’s a pass from me – there are so many amazing nude spectrum palettes around that I can’t make any sense of the spend for the shades. But, Hourglass fans I think will be all over these and loving them! There are six variants (some with shimmer) of the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette HERE.

I think it looks stunning but I won’t be buying. I absolutely love Diffused Light and feel it’s worth the money but with eyeshadows, I think I’m OK with less expensive palettes.

The presentation and packaging of these really are beautiful! But I won’t be picking this or any of the shades up – so much money for five shades as pretty as they are (although the palette does look quite big?)

To be honest, the pallete is amazing, whoever designed this is a star. But it is way too expensive, even if it is an amazing product. I doubt anyone would ever get through one pallete in their lifetime.
Thank you, I have been waiting for these to hit the UK. I was expecting them to be around the £45 mark, and had my eye on at least 2 or 3 of them. So after seeing the actual price!!!! Had only went for one Exposure, just ordered it online. Well I want the new Chantecaille eyeshadow palette and its £62, so that will have to be next month.
Excellent and objective review as I Knew it would be 🙂
Beautifyl pallete, but it is so expensive
I probably would have forked out for this if the reviews had been better, but so far I’ve not read one review saying they love it, in fact many have said they really dislike it. It’s a shame, I have been a real fan of Hourglass but I feel there are so many let downs in their line, although there are obviously a few cult must haves too. Thanks for the review x
I love the colours in this palette – defintely a winner for a neutral lover like myself – But I definitely agree that there are more affordable palettes out there for just the same amount of quality! Great post 🙂

What I hate about this palette is that it costs the same amount as the blush/powder palettes and yet you get half the amount of product as those. So disappointed.
Oh cheeky SpaceNK, they have now removed it for sale. I got an email confirmation, so it will be interesting to see if its on back order after showing from your link that is was in stock.
How frustrating.. I’m really sorry. I know that Liberty is also a stockist. x
It is completely unacceptable that they cost $58 and £56. The price in GBP should be drastically reduced so it can be an even pounds and dollars conversion. I am happy I am visiting family in the states so I can pick it up here on the cheap. I mean theoretically if we are going pounds to dollars this should cost NINETY DOLLARS because it costs £58. Absurd. I would NOT buy these in the UK. Only if an American friend can pick them up for you would I suggest it!

I see this kind of assumption a lot, but it’s erroneous (unless we’re talking Estee Lauder Family, who are rip-off merchants of the highest order in the $ to £ conversion).
GBP includes VAT at a whopping 20%. USD prices do not include Federal or State taxes, which usually amount to around 10% on top of the listed dollar price.
When you remove both these taxes, you can which brands behave more sensibly on the $ to £ price conversion – £42 for the $58 Vice 3 palette, for example.
Then you can also see the total rip-offs – £49 for the $42 Smashbox On the Rocks palette, lookin’ at you.
$58 to £56 is OTT. Realistically it should be about £48-£50 after VAT, so there’s a small bump there, but it’s not absolutely massive.
Is it bad that I know this is expensive – but I want it just to have it? It’s gorgeous!
