The Google Friend Disconnect

Last week Google did the unthinkable and removed GFC from non-Blogger blogs. At first, nobody took much notice but over the subsequent days, non-Blogger blogs started experiencing a huge drop in visitor numbers. Why? Because by removing GFC as a subscription service means that anyone following WordPress blogs via GFC can no longer get easy access to them.  You’ll no longer receive updates of their latest posts and they have disappeared from your Blogger reading list.

Actually, it’s not too hard to re-find your favourite bloggers by reinstating them on Google Reader or banking them in Blog Lovin’ along with your other favourite blogs.
And if you haven’t noticed yet that your faves are missing, there is a link below that details who will have disappeared from your updates so you can pop them back into Google Reader or Blog Lovin’.
It’s well worth taking time to have a look and do some reinstating.. these bloggers didn’t know, when they chose WordPress, that this could ever happen, and the loss to many in terms of numbers is huge. And while we all know it isn’t the numbers that count, it’s like half your friends emigrating to Australia on the same day – you’d want them back, right?! Or at least be a little lonely without them.

I wonder if this is the beinning of the end for Google? I was reading a blog post dated 4th August 2011 by The Pointman in which he explains that when people start to bully it leads to a loss of prestige and decline. Google seems to have started down the bulling route changing their privacy policy and removing this blogging tool.

  2. This saddens me and I’m sure the entire blogging world. I’d love to be added to the list so that those who are unfamiliar with how to find the blogs they once followed could reach out to those blogs they love!

My blogger dashboard is still one of my favorite “places” although I am now on WordPress….

  3. I have manually followed some on my blogger dashboard so they still show up there, but it is a pain when they suddenly change things 🙁 xx

I was wondering what was going on here! I hate when Google changes things on us!
