Friday Treat : Tablecloth Dresses

[unpaid/affiliate] In my local market, there is a stall that sells printed wipe-clean PVC fabric by the metre. The patterns are varied but there are a lot of ‘bistro’ styles featuring beige crock pots and cups of coffee. Quite often, there is a check pattern running through the cuisinealia (not actually a word but I’m hoping it might catch on), and the only time I’ve seen this type of pattern in the wild, so to speak, is in France on cafe tables where fast turn around and outdoor eating go hand in hand. Thankfully, fashion has interpreted wipe-clean rather more brightly and chic-ly so you can wear the style without worrying someone will pull up a chair next to you…

I think it’s going to depend on where you are in France as to what pattern you might find – this dress from River Island keeps catching my attention and could easily be billowed over chic seaside epicerie tables – just plonk a plate of croissants in the middle of the table with a heavy load of salted butter and you might as well actually be French. The dress is £55 in sizes 6 to 14 (larger sizes have sold out) HERE.

If you haven’t got rafia shopping basket to accompany this Boden dress to the market to stock up on baguette and langoustines, you’re doing it wrong (there’s a great one HERE that’s affordable and cute). This lemon pattern would be right at home in the market square patisserie under a vintage sun umbrella (see last week’s Friday Treat). It’s £125 HERE in sizes 6 to 18.

You could not be more at home at the bar de plage than in this muddle of fruit and birds with a bold stripe – prop up the bar with a pastis avec ice and pair with cut offs, white jeans or a denim mini. It’s from Next in sizes 6 to 26 and it’s £22 HERE.

River Island has taken a more fruity approach to tablecloth fashion – perfect for le picnic, no? It’s £35.99 HERE and available only in sizes 12 and 14 because all the others have sold out.

Finally, Urban Outfitters has this 100% cotton number for you wear while you sip your Cotes de Provence Rose on the hottest of days. It’s available in sizes 6-14 and costs £90 HERE. Kind of love it but not sure whether for my table or my body 🙂
