[unpaid/purchase/affiliate] I’ve had a little flurry of shopping – I’m not sure I’m finished yet – but despite it being spring time, I’ve gone for my default colour black in both a dress and a jumpsuit. Regular readers will know how painfully awkward I find it posing for fashion posts – I’m so used to showing just my face and torso that I just go all stiff and weird! But, it’s important to see body shape etc. I’m a standard size 12 and 5ft 3ins.

This gorgeous, soft jersey jumpsuit was an instant hit the minute I tried it on. It’s comfortable, fluid and flattering and I loved it straight away. It’s the Haylie Jumpsuit, £56, available in sizes 6-24 (I’m wearing a 12) in three lengths – petite, regular and long (I’m wearing regular).

It’s got a slight ruffle around the neckline – which itself is not one of those choking round necks; it has a little bit of a scoop which I think is more flattering. I hate a tight neckline. It’s got an elasticated waist (so comfortable – does not grip your intestines) and a tie front (which I could do without but it’s okay) and once the weather warms up, I think it will be hard to keep me out of this. I bought a black jumpsuit last year with a v-neck that I absolutely love but it was cheap as chips and the downside to that is that it grows while I wear it until eventually I am tripping up on the legs. I still wear it but have to wash it after every wear to bring it back to size. It’s £56 HERE.

My second purchase – and what a faff it was – is this Saint & Sophia dress. I love the shape of it but in particular I’m a big fan of a racer back or cross back and the sporty lurex stripe of the cross straps was too much to resist. I initially bought a size 12 which was far too big. The top part has a kind of bra shelf – if you have big boobs it won’t offer much support but honestly I think I would go braless with this, not being exactly blessed in that department. I had to size down to a 10 which fits perfectly (and because it fits perfectly, provides more support in the boobage department) so I ended up paying £4.50 to return the one that was too big when eventually I could find a way to return it. The brand just makes it too difficult and process heavy – I even emailed to ask if we could do the return process on the phone because I was getting stuck in a ‘would you like a different size?’, ‘let’s find you something else’ loop without being able to find the ‘no, just let me return the damn thing’ section.

The fabric is cotton with some stretch in it – it’s not a flimsy thing; there is a feel to it that makes me want to say sports fabric and it’s exceptionally comfortable. It’s available in a size 6 to 22 and is £79 (but was £140) HERE. There is also a blue option. I’ve had a couple of items from S&S before and wasn’t all that impressed with them quality wise, but this one is definitely a winner.
