[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I read the other day about how the turn of the season is a trigger for feelings of sadness and low mood. There’s something that you can almost touch with that sense in the air that summer is fading and it’s little wonder we feel unsettled by it. Apparently, our fore-bearers would have seen autumn as a time of rest and a marker of the end of all the hard summer food growing work but we plough on through at the same pace all year so don’t have that rewarding contentment and rest feeling.
Apart from starting your Vitamin D now, helping yourself out of that unsettled feeling is a question of trying to lean into the season. That might mean for you that you love to hunker down with Netflix or take a gorgeously fragrant hot bath – maybe scented candles float your boat – and you may like to consider the Sleeping Beauty Set from Feather & Down. I’ve had the burner going with the Sweet Dreams Essential Oil – although it’s a blend of lavender and chamomile, it’s quite light so I’d put it more in the relax category than the sleep category – you can add the pillow spray at bed time.
Now, I can’t help feeling slightly aggrieved that they didn’t include a tea light (come on, they cost pennies) in this set – if you’re gifting, you might want to slip one in. It’s £12.50 which seems like a very good price for either a treat-to-self or gifting HERE and maybe something to set in motion a more contented or accepting feeling. Things that I like about autumn are leafy walks, carte blanche for hot chocolate (it’s necessary) on tap, the lower evening light that makes the house feel cosy, extra blankets on the bed and my solar garden lights because there is still enough light to power them up but they look stunning at night. There’s a gorgeous Moroccan solar lamp HERE for £20 – you don’t need to keep it outside – just a dark corner than needs some beauty to it.
