[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Honestly, I jumped for joy when the Eve Lom Cleansing Oil Capsules arrived in the post. When I was writing for print, Eve Lom cleanser was all anyone could talk about – the eucalyptus scent, the balm texture and the process of stamping cleansing into a ritual and skin care moment in its own right rather than something you did quickly before you started your ‘skin care’. I don’t think anything from the brand has been as successful as the cleanser so it makes perfect sense to capitalize on your gains. I’m now realising that my weekends away (two scheduled for September so finger’s crossed and very much hoping for a Eurostar trip to Paris at some point, too – I’m shallow enough that I want to visit La Samaritaine, LVMH’s revival of a department store that dates to the 1870’s) could, skin care wise, entirely comprise a handful of capsules. Elizabeth Arden’s lovely Ceramide capsules or Elemis Cellular Recovery and Eve Lom’s Cleansing Capsules mean I can fit my routine into (more or less) a nutshell.
For clarity, the biodegradable capsules contain a cleansing oil that smells more of chamomile than anything – it also contains hops which I think leave a fragrance trail too. In fact, the whole thing amounts to something quite earthy smelling – not unpleasant but if you were hoping for a rush of camphor, it’s not here, although the ingredient lists mentions eucalyptus and clove. Maybe it’s my hayfever-y nose letting me down.
The capsule sizes are quite generous – I think I could get two cleanses out of each one depending upon what the job is. If it’s a whole load of make up then you’d need a full one but if it’s just taking the day off a make up free face, prop it up and finish it up the next day. It goes without saying that suddenly, carry on liquid allowance looks positively generous when you’ve whittled down your cleanser and your moisturiser to handful of caps – if someone could create capsule SPF that would be wonderful, thank you. We usually go away with friends so buy a bottle of body SPF to share between all of us when we get there but they’re never ideal for faces.
Eve Lom has long departed the brand which was bought by Manzanita Capital (they own SpaceNK) but is now (this year) owned by Chinese company, Yatzen (who also own Perfect Diary, a brand that we don’t hear much of in the UK but is huuuuuuge in China). I mean, the brand is a long way from its origins but I’m all for innovation like this that makes life simpler. I’d advise starting with the £20 travel set HERE, which is a refillable carrier case with 14 capsules. If you’re only away for a couple of days, you can easily sub in your moisture capsules so you have a complete beauty kit. The full size pot is £55 for 50 caps HERE. Non-affiliate HERE.
