Some very pretty colours coming up from Essie for their Resort collection from March 2014. Above from left to right: Under The Twilight, Resort Fling, Find Me An Oasis and Cocktails & Coconuts.

While I was at the presentation for the new shades I had a ‘floating’ manicure with a dark half moon and light nails. It’s not as hard as it looks to do so I’ve got a mini tutorial below.

So, from the top, start with a dark colour (I have Essie Liquorice) and don’t worry about being precise; you can see my nails are painted very freely at the base – crucially with no base coat. Next, with a brush dipped in nail polish remover you can start to shape the polish into a curve by removing polish until you have the shape you like (and that’s why you use no base coat – it would be much harder to do this if the polish was anchored to a base).

Using a paler shade (you can use any colour – try pale blue or pale pink) you add a first coat of the paler shade but instead of using your brush from top to bottom, go from side to side so you can curve around the half moon. You will get some polish down the sides of your nails so have an orange stick at hand to quickly remove. After than, add a second coat and then either a glossy topcoat or a matte top coat. I’ve opted for glossy here. Always ensure that you swipe your nail polish brush over the free edge of the nail to help to stop chipping.

So pleased to see this Jane!! Seeing the resort collection before the spring is quite odd to me though… Did you happen to see the spring collection at all? I’ve heard nothing about it so far. The press releases or at least sneak peek pics are normally up by now.

  2. Under the twilight looks beautiful, and you can never have too many purple polishes LOL. Xx
